Weighing In -
It has been medically and scientifically proven that people who weigh themselves on a daily basis are more successful at maintaining their current weight as well as losing weight.
That being said, I will tell you from personal experience that weighing in everyday can be a real bummer. I've dealt with bodybuilders; figure gals, Office Dads, Construction workers and Susie-home-makers; (including myself) and weighing everyday gives you a stigma. "WHY!? Haven't I lost a pound?" "Am I not gaining muscle? The scale should have moved a slight bit!"
One must realize that- (A) we gain almost 10 pounds of water, waste and undigested food weight throughout the day (B) We are almost NEVER working on an empty tank (C) We are almost ALWAYS hydrated to some degree (D) Most everyone always weighs in with clothing on including shoes.
Personally, I suggest weighing in, in the morning- preferably after you have emptied the waste tanks/ YES! Both of them, and preferably before you eat or drink anything. This is almost IMPOSSIBLE! to do. I know I need at least a cup of coffee in the morning to start my day properly and happily.
If you can't make the morning appointment with your scale on "empty," try after your coffee. This will normally give you a more accurate number on the scale.
If your mornings are rushed and you find that you just don't have the time wait until you are at the gym, and remember that you are at least 8 pounds heavier than you were that morning. *Also, always try to use the same scale*
That's right! 10-8 pounds, I know this number may seem high to you, but you can go to your doctor or even ask a nutritionist and they should confirm this. Your shoes, clothing and accessories add up to 4-5 pounds with the remaining 4-5 pounds water, waste and undigested food weight.
* Test this one-week and see for yourself*
Now to weighing in daily, personally I am against it. I have weighed in daily, weekly, bi-weekly and monthly. When I first started my weight loss journey I weighed myself everyday. When I didn't see the numbers that I wanted and expected I became incredibly discouraged. I worked out hard and religiously, was good about my diet and water intake, so why!? Wasn't the scale moving in the direction I wanted? Why wasn't I losing a pound a day!? (These are things that we will go into later, I promise)
So, I backed off the scale to once every two weeks. Yes! That was a difficult thing to do- especially since my scale looked at me every time I stepped foot in the bathroom! This is where self-control comes into play. (Another topic for a later discussion) I'll tell you something though, at the end of those two weeks, I was a very happy girl. I had lost 8 pounds! ...
In my opinion (and opinions are like what!?) but I think mine are based on trial and error so I put stalk into what I am saying here...If you are someone with 200 pounds to lose and you are being honest with your exercise and diet- I suggest stepping on that scale every 3 weeks to once a month, (I know that seems like a long time, but you have a hard road ahead, and these successes make it all the more gratifying.) once you have lost 100 pounds step it up to once every two weeks.
If you are someone with 100-50 pounds to lose I suggest stepping on that scale every two weeks until you have reached that goal. Once achieved- make a weekly habit out of it. And if you are someone looking to drop 50-5 pounds- make it a weekly event.
Finally, if you are someone maintaining or trying to lose a few pounds I still suggest once a week.
My reasons for this are such- your body NEEDS and TAKES what time it needs to achieve certain losses and gains. If you have been a fast-food junkie your whole life and suddenly stop this urge, your body goes into to a type of shock storing body fat until it decides it no longer needs it due to your new diet. And- once you start to put on muscle- thing readjust, relocate and finally fall off. Realize, NOTHING happens over night- weight loss takes time and dedication; everyone, no matter their age and environment can achieve this goal.
So, if you actually want to see results, stay away from the scale everyday! Set up a date with it instead. You know your goals and wither it is 200+ pounds to 50 or 5, a weekly or bi-weekly visit will make you much happier.
*Please....Please...PLEASE take note! A proper diet, water consumption, exercise routine and supplement intake are important to a healthy body. There are also Thermogenics otherwise known as fat burners that work very well to help you lose weight, QuickSupps.com has a great variety of them. Please remember to use them properly.*
