We all know, no one likes to do cardio, but we have to do it to stay in shape. What's the fastest most successful use of cardio? HIIT might be the answer. High intensity interval training maximizes fat loss while minimizing muscle loses. The goal of this type of cardio is to burn more fat while spending less time doing it. You're probably thinking yeah right, less time more fat loss. With a program like HIIT you're going to be working harder than normal but working off the fat and keeping that hard work muscle you have made. A scientific study shows that HIIT cardio burns nine times more calories than conventional cardio.
How HIIT works so well:
1. When you exercise at a higher intensity you burn more calories per pound of body weight.
2. When you raise your body's heart rate for such periods of time, you raise your metabolic rate for the entire day. This means you're going to be burning calories at a faster rate all day long.
3. High intensity workouts like HIIT raise growth hormones in the body.
An example of a HIIT cardio workout:
Start off warming up jogging at a moderate pace for around 15 minutes. After you're warm then start the intervals. Sprint as hard as you possibly can for 60 seconds then walk for 60 seconds. A set of one run and one walk is a rep. Do five reps of intervals and cool down with a 10 minute jog. HIIT can be done several ways. You can incorporate hill sprints for more of a challenge.
Enjoy the high intensity workouts and shed those last 10lbs or the first 10lbs.
